Renovation and Addition

Kew Extension

This project is the rear extension to a Edwardian period house in Kew.  The brief involves a new family room, kitchen, pantry and laundry, connected to a retreat upstairs and three bedrooms via an open feature stair next to a light court.

The main challenge of this project were how to ensure the main living spaces downstairs felt spacious whilst not taking up too much of the backyard.  This was done by having generous ceiling heights and maximizing the opportunities for natural light via side windows and a light court to the east.

The other challenge was how to fit three bedrooms and sitting room upstairs without overshadowing and overlooking issues, which was done with careful planning and using the existing structure.
