Port Melbourne House
This project involves the demolition of an existing 1970s house on an irregular site in Port Melbourne, and the construction of new house. The brief for this house was to incorporate an open planned kitchen, living, dining space, a playroom and garage on the ground floor, and three bedrooms and two bathrooms on the first floor.
The main challenge of this project was how to approach the design of a house at the intersection of an industrial and industrial area, which incorporates elements of both, whilst having its own style and identity. The approach was to use recycled red bricks in an angular form, with large floor to ceiling windows behind a perforated metal façade. This leads to a narrow hallway which opens up to an open, light filled family room leading out to the courtyard.
