Alterations and Additions
This project is the rear extension to a red brick double fronted Edwardian house in Kew. The brief was to renovate the existing house incorporating a new bathroom and laundry, and adding a new family room, kitchen and dining space. Upstairs was to incorporate a master bedroom, ensuite and walk in robe, with a second living space that led up to the roof deck to capture the city views.
The main challenges of this project were how to do a modern extension to a period home that would also be very visible from the side from the adjacent park. The approach was to do an extension that used a materials palette that borrowed from the surrounding area, but in an abstract sense. The roof deck is also concealed behind the roof form so that it did not appear to be out of character with the surrounding area.
